Evidence 1: Internal Assesment
For my internal assesment I was told I needed to choose a topic I was interested in, and basically related to the class. A the time, I wasn’t the best student for Global Politics so I knew I would really have to make it about something I understood, and was interested in. So I ended using the topic of Eating Disorders. I chose this topic because I knew it would be original and I was determined to prove that eating disorders should in fact be more of a concern to the Mexican government. I was convinced that people didn’t take eating disorders seriously because they think they are a choice rather than a mental ilness , and sometimes , actually most of the time this ignorance extends to politicians and government representatives, and that clearly enhances the problem because then the resources and attention needed to tackle these health issue are misplaced, and the issue is left unattended. I faced the challenge of connectecting such an unusual topic to the key concepts and theories of the class, but I was really proud of my outcome and of the response I got from the final product. I think this will help me in the future because I am now more informed about the topic and can fight for what I believe is a real issue. Finally this shows that I am carrying because I knew I had the responsibility to take action on something that deeply affected me to make sure people can be aware and to make a change. I took my knowledge with ethics and morals.
Evidence 2: Rwanda assignment
For this assignment we had to answer a few questions about the Rwandan Genocide. I was very intrigued for the very first time with the class, and I believe it it was the first assignment I ever understood. I feel like my analysis was deep enough and I could relate it to the topics seen in class. I will always look back to the assignment and feel proud of myself as a reminder that I can do whatever I put my mind on. I also think that this was important and will help me in the future because it's from the past mistakes that we as humans and as a society learn and we can see the signs when bad history is repeating itself. Finally I believe this assignment shows I am reflective because I was able to analyze everything that happened back then with the concepts and theories of the course.
Evidence 3: Oral presentation
I wouldn't say I am as proud of this as the other two evidences, but I definitely learnt a lot from the experience. I am now able to recognize my mistakes, and will be able to fix them in the future. In fact, I was able to make a better IA from the things I learnt from my presentation. I talked about prostitution in Amsterdam and the health of sex workers there. I was very into my topic because I thought it was controversial. The problem with this presentation is that I struggled to make deep connections to the key concepts, (even though they were there). I think this will help me in the future to explcitly state the relation between what I am analyzing and what is expected. I believe this shows I am knowledgeable because I learnt from the experience and will be able to apply my knowledge forward.
